In my property healing business, I come across some truly incredible people. However, I had never come across a buyer’s advocate before. That was until I met the delightful, genuine and inspiring Joanna Boyd. She explained to me what she does, and how her work helps people, and I knew I had to share.

Can you tell me a bit about what service you offer?
I am a passionate Buyers Advocate with 20+ years property experience and I LOVE houses, and nothing makes me happier than helping someone find the right property for the next phase of their lives. I also understand what it is like to be searching for a new home because of a life-changing event such as the death of a partner, divorce or separation. It’s an emotional and stressful time.
As a Buyers Advocate, I am a licensed real estate professional who acts on your behalf to search for a property and negotiate a purchase. I don’t sell real estate. I only work for the buyer. I can remain objective when evaluating a property and ensure you are aware of current market conditions and expected property value.
What made you start your business?
Following on from the sudden loss of my husband, I had to reset and restart my life to ensure that I was able to support my family (3 teenagers) financially and emotionally whilst not burning myself out and essentially creating some new happiness in my life.
My natural love for property and working with people seemed a natural fit and ticked so many of my own personal needs when resetting my life. I was fortunate to have a 2month holiday in Italy (kid free) and I guess I then had my Italian Epiphany.
From those humble beginnings my business was born, and now I specialise in walking clients through the process of buying a house after sudden change – shouldering the emotional burden too often involved in what can seem like an overwhelming hurdle. From helping source solicitors and finding off-market houses to representing clients at auctions, I support my clients at every step of the journey – keeping them focused on the end-vision of a new home and a totally fresh start. – this is where Joanna Boyd Buyers Advocate was born.
How does your work help people or the planet?
My business objective is totally about my clients and giving then the sense, purpose and strength to move forward in life. We are all challenged with so many things throughout our lives and this in an essence creates us for who we are. I believe that everyone deserves and needs a safe place, a place to call home where you can just be you and feel secure.
I believe that I provide this platform to individuals by providing different levels of service as a Buyers Advocate. It is such an amazing feeling seeing your clients in their new home and taking control of their new lives - so warming and exciting.
Have you ever across properties that needed a healing? What were the tell-tale signs?
Working in the property industry for many years has presented numerous occasions when things just don’t feel right…. We are often advised of “stigmatised” properties and this information needs to be relayed to all perspective purchasers so than can make an informed decision if they want to cleanse the space from negative energy.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about buying property?
Remove your emotional filters and don’t get caught up with the cosmetic aspects of a property.
Look beyond the styling of a property, strategically placed floor rugs and hanging pictures and the use of oversized furniture. Undertake your due diligence, be curious, understand the market, look at comparative sales, DO NOT OVER PAY!!!
