It’s officially the beginning of winter here in Australia. That’s often a time where we rug up, stay indoors and, if you are like me, eat. But it can also be a time of year when we get a little more down because we are less inclined to get out there and exercise, socialise or spend time in the wilderness. So this winter, I have decided to do something to intentionally brighten my mood each day.
Every day in June, I will be taking a photo of something beautiful in nature and posting it on Instagram with the hashtag #lovenaturechallenge. This simple act will enable me to stop and remember how magical nature really is, and how much of it goes unnoticed when I go about my busy, everyday life in the western world. If you are in need of a little pick-me-up, why not join in?
You have probably already seen me rabbit on about how important appreciating nature is if you have read some of my other posts. If we, as a society, don’t appreciate it, we won’t protect it. Furthermore, we will never reach the point of living in harmony with it again (like our ancestors managed to), and I hate to break it to you, but we kinda need to live in harmony with the planet for the human race to survive. It’s not some never ending resource to exploit and it can be screwed for good.
Simply being in nature has a healing effect on all of us too. It de-stresses us and lifts our vibration. Not to mention how amazingly wonderful it feels to see a creature outside do something incredible, like seeing a dolphin jump out of the water or a joey climb out of its mother’s pouch. (This is called biophilia by the way. It’s not often I get to show off big words I know.)
So let’s get out there and start appreciating the world around us!
